Northern Student meets Al

Posted in Press Releases on December 20th, 2007

At a house party in Bemidji earlier this month, Al spoke to a crowd that included a reporter from the Northern Student, the paper of Bemidji State University. He wrote about Al’s campaign to take on Norm Coleman.

Franken believes that he’s the man for the job. Many of people gathered to hear him talk on Sunday agree.

Former BSU teacher Will Weaver said “He has great ideas, and what he’s talking about is how we all need to feel good about this country again, and that’s why I am supporting Al Franken.”

Representative Frank Moe, who officially endorsed Franken only a few months ago, shared similar sentiments. “I’m going to do everything I can to support him.”

At the home of Lin and Jay Backstrom of Bemidji Franken warmed up the crowd gathered there with a few jokes before getting down to business. While Franken is no stranger to telling jokes over microphone the atmosphere in the room had more of a church feel to it than that of a comedy club.

As Franken described Senator Norm Coleman as a “cheerleader for the war” the political equivalent to a southern “amen” could be heard in the
room.
