SAINT PAUL [1/16/08] – The Al Franken for US Senate campaign is extremely proud to announce the endorsement of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49. The Operating Engineers Local 49 has 13,000 active members and 3,500 retirees in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The membership of Local 49 works with contracts for highway heavy and building contractors, well drillers, equipment repair shops, welding shops, sand and gravel suppliers, counties, municipalities, school districts and more.
Glen Johnson, Business Manager of Local 49, released the following statement:
“We believe that Al Franken is the best candidate to defeat Senator Norm Coleman. Sen. Coleman has been devastating to working people in this state. His support of free trade agreements and his opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act undermine the ability of Americans to have a voice at work. Minnesota deserves a Senator who stands up for the people and not the special interests.”
And Al had this to say:
“The ‘49ers’ and I share some common goals: standing up for Minnesota’s working men and women, improving our infrastructure, and strengthening our economy by creating good union jobs. That’s why I’m so proud they’re standing with me in this campaign. I can’t wait for us to get to work together.”
