House Parties North to South!
Posted in From the Trail on January 16th, 2008
2008 has kicked off to an AMAZING start. In just a couple short weeks, we outraised Norm Coleman (again), put up our first TV ads, and received the support of Education Minnesota, the Operating Engineers Local 49, Governor Wendell “Wendy” Anderson, State Senator Mee Moua, State Senator-elect Kevin Dahle, State Representative Phyllis Kahn, and State Representative Maria Ruud.
But one of the very best things that 2008 has brought is an influx of house parties all over Minnesota. TeamFranken is constantly on the road, traveling from house to house – and sometimes coffee shop to library to union hall – meeting Minnesotans and introducing them to Al.
Last week, we piled into the hybrid and headed north to Duluth, where former City Councilmember Laurie Johnson was kind enough to open her lovely home to our campaign. And wow did she throw the doors open wide. Over 150 people packed in to hear Al, who balanced precariously on a chair to deliver his speech. You can read about it here.
In Saint Paul, at Roy Magnuson’s home, it was the same story. Almost 200 DFLers showed up to meet Al – so many that Al wound up giving his speech twice, so the people who were lined up outside the door the first time got to hear him, too. The second speech wasn’t his usual – he talked all about education.
Which leads us to another exciting announcement – Thomasin Franken (Al’s daughter – and a teacher) has joined us on the trail! She’s been making the rounds to the house parties too – and you’ll be hearing from her soon.
Thomasin and Franni both got to see Al in Rochester, where over 200 packed into the public library. The Rochester Post Bulletin has photos here. After the speech, Al gave the audience a personal viewing of his new TV ads… but Mrs. Molin might have stolen the show.
We’re only just getting started! Keep checking the website – we’ll be coming to a house near you!
