Al Franken for Senate Announces New Labor Endorsements!

SAINT PAUL [4/3/08] - The Al Franken for U.S. Senate campaign is proud today to announce the support of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA), the Union of Laborers District Council MN & ND, AFSCME Council 65, and the Minnesota Industrial Union Council.

The Minnesota Industrial Union Council released the following statement:

“It is with great pleasure that we announce that the Minnesota Industrial Union Council has unanimously voted to endorse Al Franken for U.S. Senate. With this endorsement comes not only our joint commitment to victory, but the spirit, determination, and dedication of all our members and their families to stand together for all working families in Minnesota.”

Members of the Minnesota Industrial Union Council consist of Communication Workers of America (CWA), United Auto Workers (UAW), United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), Bakery Confectionary Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM), and United Steel Workers (USW).

Jim Brady, Business Manager for the Laborers District Council MN & ND, released the following statement:

“The Laborers District Council MN & ND is proud to endorse Al Franken for U.S. Senate. Al’s commitment to fight for workers rights to organize, a safe workplace, strong prevailing wage laws, fair trades standards, affordable health care and secure pensions provides a sharp contrast to the incumbent and will provide a clear and welcome choice for our 11,000 members come November 2008.”

Steve Preble, Executive Director of AFSCME, Council 65, released the following statement:

“AFSCME, Council 65 is supporting Al Franken because he supports working people. We are excited to be working on what we know will be a successful campaign to beat Norm Coleman.”

AFSCME, Council 65 represents approximately 13,000 public and non-profit employees in over 100 locals throughout Greater Minnesota.

Linda Slattengren, MNA President and Registered Nurse, released the following statement:

“Al Franken is a keen and passionate advocate for nurses, nursing issues and our patients. With his unequivocal support of the Federal Staffing Bill, HR 2123, he has also recognized the need to improve the nurse’s work environment which includes addressing safe and appropriate staffing.”

MNA represents the interests of the state’s 100,000 registered nurses.
