Coleman Puts Special Interests Ahead Of Minnesotans. Again.
Posted in Press Releases on June 10th, 2008SAINT PAUL [6/10/08] - With Minnesota consumers paying $4 a gallon at the pump, why would a Minnesota Senator vote against tax incentives for investment in renewable energy?
With Minnesota businesses poised to reap the benefits of new “green” technologies, why would a Minnesota Senator vote against extending the research and development tax credit?
With Minnesota farmers ready to provide the world with homegrown alternative energy, why would a Minnesota Senator vote against investing in biofuels?
With Minnesota students graduating this spring with a crushing burden of debt, why would a Minnesota Senator vote against extending the tuition tax credit?
With Minnesota teachers paying for classroom supplies out of their own pockets, why would a Minnesota Senator vote against allowing them a deduction for those expenses?
And with Minnesota families struggling to make ends meet in the Bush-Coleman recession, why would a Minnesota Senator vote against middle-class tax relief like expanding the child tax credit?
Today, Norm Coleman did just that, voting to block the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008. The bill would have been offset by closing a tax loophole for hedge fund managers earning offshore income and delaying a tax break for multi-national corporations.
Al Franken said:
“Norm Coleman made it clear once again today that he doesn’t understand what the job of a Minnesota Senator is. He must think he works for the hedge fund managers and multi-national corporations instead of Minnesota’s consumers, businesses, farmers, students, teachers, and families.
“We need a Senator who takes the job seriously. We need a Senator who works for the people of Minnesota. We need to fire Norm Coleman.”
