Al and Westwood Elementary School
Posted in From the Trail on June 27th, 2008
In April, Al visited Westwood Elementary School in Zimmerman as part of our Green Jobs Week. Westwood Elementary is Minnesota’s first LEED-certified school, and Al was very impressed with the school building and the enthusiasm of the students as they told him why their school is so great. Now, Al’s visit to Westwood Elementary School is highlighted on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Build Green Schools website.
One of the best ways to spread the word about green schools is to get people to visit a working green school and see just how great they are. And if you can get someone famous to check out your school, even better! That’s just what the students at Westwood Elementary School in Zimmerman, Minn., did when they invited noted green schools advocate, comedian and candidate for U.S. senator Al Franken for a tour. The kids had fun meeting Mr. Franken and teaching him about what makes Westwood, Minnesota’s first LEED-certified school, truly green.
You can see a photo of Westwood Elementary students with Al on their web site.
