A Great Day for a Parade
Sunday morning, TeamFranken assembled en masse on the steps of the Minneapolis Library to walk over to our spot in the huge Twin Cities GLBT Pride Parade. Our energetic volunteers and interns ran ahead to pass out Franken stickers as Al walked through the parade line-up to say hello to everyone. As the parade started, Al returned to take his place at the head of the TeamFranken parade unit, where a big crowd of supporters (including St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman) had gathered together to march with Al.

Shaking as Many Hands as Possible
And march they did – and yell, and cheer, and wave signs, and jump up and down. Minneapolis’ Pride Parade is one of the biggest parades in the Upper Midwest, so it was a huge crowd, and they gave Al a wonderful reception. He ran back and forth across the street throughout the parade, shaking hands and getting a few hugs as he did his best to ask for the support of everyone he could. Anyone who has ever tried to keep up with Al in a parade knows that it’s no easy task, and we can attest to a certain level of exhaustion at the end of the day.

Al Gets a High Five
After the parade, Al walked through the GLBT Pride Celebration Festival in Loring Park to talk to voters and enjoy the day. A few dedicated TeamFranken members signed up volunteers at the DFL booth as the rest of us checked out the booths and cheered when passing supporters yelled “Go Al!” in response to our Franken t-shirts.
