Minnesota ACORN Endorses Al Franken
Posted in Press Releases on July 16th, 2008
SAINT PAUL [7/16/08] - Today, the Al Franken for U.S. Senate campaign is proud to announce the endorsement of Minnesota ACORN, a member-driven community organization dedicated to providing housing services to low- and middle-income Minnesotans.
“I’m thrilled and honored to receive this endorsement,” said Al Franken. “And more motivated than ever to work with ACORN and other community organizations in this campaign and in the Senate to fight for economic justice, health care reform, good-paying jobs, and a solution to the housing crisis.”
Al Franken met with ACORN Board Members Sherman Wilburn and Karen Inman in the home of Denise Callahan to discuss the state of the economy. Callahan is an ACORN member who’s losing her own home and whose neighborhood has been devastated by the foreclosure crisis.
“During our discussions with Al Franken it was apparent that he believes in empowering all people, not just the rich,” said Karen Inman, ACORN Board Member. “He supports an increase in the minimum wage, health care for all, fully funding education, and stopping predatory lending - as well as enacting a freeze on foreclosures. Norm Coleman has not been receptive to ACORN’S overtures and continues to be beholden to corporate interests and the rich.”
