TeamFranken’s State Fair Update: Labor Day!
Posted in From the Trail on September 1st, 2008
Today was our last day at the State Fair, and what a great State Fair experience we’ve had! We thought last year was great, but the response Al has gotten this year has been phenomenal. Al’s done over a dozen live radio and TV interviews from the State Fair, and Franni and Thomasin even did a joint radio interview of their own.

Mrs. Molin Looks On as Mayor Coleman Introduces Al
Thursday night, Al followed a good day at the Fair with our Obama Watch Party, but it was right back to the Fair the next morning for an early morning appearance on Dave Lee in the Morning. On Friday afternoon, we had a big crowd of over 150 people waiting for Al to make his way through the State Fair to our booth (he tends to get way-laid by folks who want to say hello, ask Al a question or get a photo). St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Al’s daughter Thomasin warmed up the crowd, and even Al’s third-grade teacher Mrs. Molin was there!
And when Al arrived, our big crowd of fair-goers went wild! Mayor Coleman handed the mic over to Al, who gave a rousing speech to a crowd that grew bigger and bigger, as folks gathered around to hear Al speak about the change we need in Washington. Late on Friday afternoon when people had plenty of other interesting things to see at the Great Minnesota Get-Together, we had over 400 people surrounding our booth listening to Al’s speech!

The Immense Crowd Fully Surrounded the Booth
We never could figure out a way to get them all in one photo, but after we saw the big crowd staying around to get the chance to talk to Al or ask a question at 7 o’clock on a Friday night at the Fair, we all have a pretty good feeling about how this race is going. (Though we don’t feel quite as good about the collective weight we’ve all put on after eating our way through the State Fair.)
Happy Labor Day, and if you missed us at the Fair, stop by our office in St. Paul, give us a call at 612-344-2008 or stop in at any of the 36 DFL field offices around the state to get involved with our campaign. We need your hard work to keep our momentum going! You can sign up on our website to get a lawn sign delivered right to your front yard – or sign up here to volunteer to help make phone calls, doorknock, or deliver lawn signs right to people’s front yards (we’ve got a lot of lawn signs to deliver!).
Check back for more photos from the Fair in our Photo Gallery.
