Franni Talks Issues
Women for Franken has been busy with house parties around Minnesota, but this Sunday evening we tried something new – our first Mothers and Daughters for Franken reception.
Supporter Holly and her mother Candy hosted the event, where 40 women came out to meet our mother-and-daughter duo Franni and Thomasin Franken. With glasses of wine and sparkling cider in hand, everyone headed outside to enjoy the balmy weather. Rep. Linda Slocum introduced Franni and Thomasin, and kicked off a conversation of the issues facing Minnesota women and their families.
The discussion flowed from education, to health care, to immigration. Former Representative Edwina Garcia and Richfield Mayor Debbie Goettel also attended the event and talked about local issues in the area. The guests were particularly interested in the Al’s 21st Century Family Leave program, and hearing about Thomasin’s experiences with No Child Left Behind when she taught in an inner city school.
Women for Franken is setting up more events all over the state, so don’t worry if you missed out on this one! Sign up to hear about future events, or visit our Events page to find one near you. Women for Franken is also kicking off a Women Calling Women program, with phone banks at our office in St. Paul – so watch our Events page for those as well!
