After Saturday’s debate at Breck High School, the reviews came pouring in: Al Franken spent the debate focused on the issues that matter to people. Al highlighted his plans to help Minnesotans, strengthen the middle class and create jobs. He may not have sounded like a typical Washington politician, but Al showed that he is ready to bring change to Washington as a United States Senator.

The debate saw plenty of discussion on the issues, but the candidates also used their first extended shot at a TV audience to stress the styles they hope will sway voters.
…
For Franken, it was a vow to put Minnesota’s middle class above special interests.
“This election isn’t about the three of us on the stage,” he said. “It’s about you, the people of Minnesota, who haven’t been getting a fair shake from Washington.”
KMSP:
Al Franken, sounding a lot like Barack Obama tonight, push for the middle class, talking about tax cuts and a green economy.
Democrat Al Franken said Coleman’s results have not benefited most in his home state and that he is ready to take Coleman’s place and actually fight for Minnesotans.
“I want to act, that’s why I’m running for Senate,” Franken said. “But it’s about who you’re acting on behalf of.”
At tonight’s debate Norm Coleman sat literally in the middle of Independent candidate Dean Barkley and Democrat Al Franken. He was eviscerated by both men.
Franken said Coleman has helped create the problems of the last six years and continues to be wrong on specific issues – from the war in Iraq to his economic philosophy to his criticism of Franken.
