Mothers and Daughters for Franken

Franni Talks Issues

Women for Franken has been busy with house parties around Minnesota, but this Sunday evening we tried something new – our first Mothers and Daughters for Franken reception.

Supporter Holly and her mother Candy hosted the event, where 40 women came out to meet our mother-and-daughter duo Franni and Thomasin Franken. With glasses of wine and sparkling cider in hand, everyone headed outside to enjoy the balmy weather. Rep. Linda Slocum introduced Franni and Thomasin, and kicked off a conversation of the issues facing Minnesota women and their families.
More about the event and the Women for Franken group after the jump…

A Note from David Wellstone

Posted in Take Action on September 12th, 2008

If you’re not on our email list, then you probably missed this letter from David Wellstone to our supporters yesterday. David (son of Paul and Sheila Wellstone) spoke at an event at the Wellstone Center in St. Paul to kick off the general election with us.

David’s Letter:

Dear Friend,

I’m in town this week to join my friend Al Franken at a rally kicking off the home stretch of his race to unseat Norm Coleman.

Al is a principled progressive who will carry on the fights that matter to all of us: for affordable, high-quality health care (with parity for mental health!)…for an economy that works for everyone…for good schools and safe roads and a clean environment…and for an end to this tragic war in Iraq. Ordinary Minnesotans need Al representing them in Washington. The special interests have too much representation already.

You and I both know what we’re up against. Norm Coleman is a slick politician and a tough opponent. And national Republicans don’t want to see Al Franken standing up to their right-wing agenda in the Senate any more than they liked seeing my dad doing the same thing.

In fact, some of the same shadowy “third-party” groups who gained notoriety for smearing my dad during the 2002 campaign have already started running ads lying about Al.

These lies are effective if we can’t counter them with the truth. And we do need resources to bring that truth to the airwaves.

Will you join me in making a contribution to Al’s campaign today to help him beat back the right-wing smear machine?

I know we can win this race. Principled progressives win with backbone – and Al has plenty of that. And with your help, he’ll have the resources he needs to take this race and bring the change we need to Washington.

Thank you for your support,

David Wellstone
