Al and Team Franken marched in the Gilbert 4th of July parade. Al had the opportunity to reach out to many Minnesotans first hand, while marching in the parade and asking for their support in becoming Minnesota’s next US Senator. Al did not kiss too many babies, but was lucky enough to some love from a cute little yellow lab. Check out the video to see Al in his element, among Minnesotans in a truly grassroots effort!
Al and a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers ventured out on a hot June day to march in the 2007 Ashley Rukes GLBT Pride Parade in Minneapolis. Al has always been a huge supporter of GLBT rights and will fight for those rights when he becomes Minnesota’s next US Senator. Check out the video (and the techno)!
In May, Al was on local Burnsville-Eagan TV's Access to Democracy hosted by Alan Miller. Al wants Minnesotans to know that he is much more than just a comedian, he has also written several substantive award winning books which were political in nature, and hosted a successful radio show on Air America. Alan and Al talked about getting to universal health care as fast as possible, the war in Iraq, and other issues. Al also wins Alan's current events/politics quiz, earning a few well-deserved bell rings.
This video is a quick message from Al at the DFL Humphrey Day Dinner. The dinner was followed by a couple great speeches by Senators Klobuchar and Harkin. The rest of the video is dedicated to supporters and volunteers of Al, explaining why they are voting for Al and why he will make a great US Senator!
Al was the keynote speaker at the 11th District Law Day Luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Duluth this year. Al used his extensive knowledge of American history and current affairs to illustrate what the intention of our founding fathers were. He adds that these core values and ideals, created by the framers of the Constitution, have been pushed aside by our current administration. He emphasized the need for congressional oversight to combat those within government who are swaying from our Constitutional system of government. Al is aware of the awesome responsibility a US Senator has and he assured the crowd of lawyers that he is ready for the challenge.
Al provides an update on how his campaign is progressing thus far, notably the staggering number of donations from both in and out of state donors. (Team Franken raised over 1.35 million dollars in the first 45 days of the campaign. ) Al also answered several questions which were previously emailed to him . The first question asked Al about potential committees he’d like to serve on as a Senator. He mentioned the veterans , energy, Native American , and the Foreign Affairs committees. He explained his passion for Veteran’s rights, sustainable energy, and his passion for both Native American and Foreign affairs. To submit your question, simply email it to questions@alfranken.com.
Al on the Late Show with David Letterman discussing his candidacy for the US Senate, and the issues which are important to Minnesotans like universal healthcare, energy conservation, and a government which is working for the people. Dave and Al also discussed Al’s seven USO tours to Iraq, Kosovo, Kuwait, and Afghanistan, with both of them agreeing that the troops serve with incredible dedication, honor, and make wonderful things happening on a daily basis. Their conversation ended with useful tips for the troops (and anyone else) when calling home.
This is the second video by Al Franken since he announced his candidacy for the US Senate. It is about how psyched he was after the huge turnouts which were held around the state, from the Iron Range to St. Louis Park High School. Many of the rallies had to be relocated because of the huge turnouts of both supporters and volunteers. Also, Al announced he will be answering questions in upcoming podcasts, so be sure to ask yours by emailing it to questions@alfranken.com.
It was our biggest rally so far -- we estimated the crowd at roughly 1200 people. The field staff had worked overtime decorating the gym, setting up the audio/visual stuff, and putting just the right mix on our campaign iPod for before and after Al's speech (we may have spent a little too much time working on that). And, of course, Al was in top form. He talked a lot about health care, renewable energy, and the war in Iraq, which are three of the issues we hear about the most out on the trail. But he also talked about our need to do a better job holding government accountable when we give it the responsibility for keeping our families secure and providing opportunity for everyone.
This is Al’s video announcing his candidacy for the US Senate in Minnesota. Nothing means more to Al than getting the government to run better and he is asking Minnesotans to trust in him as a candidate assuring us that he is up for the task of creating a smoother running government. Al wants to ensure that working poor and middle-class people get the same benefits from the government that he and Franni received while growing up.
